Shahid Hussain is originally from Malla Bagh, Srinagar, Kashmir and currently living in Münster, Germany. He completed his high school education at R.P. School, Srinagar, and went on to earn a B.Sc. in Biochemistry followed by an M.Sc. in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Kashmir. He pursued his master’s dissertation at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, where he gained foundational research experience.
Shahid then worked for three years as a Junior Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the mentorship of Prof. Ramray Bhat. His research focused on cancer glycobiology, contributing to several publications in reputed scientific journals.
Currently, Shahid is a PhD researcher at the European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI), University of Münster, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfers. He was selected for the prestigious CiM-IMPRS Graduate School. His research focuses on the application of non-invasive molecular imaging techniques to study acute kidney injury (AKI) in vivo, with the broader goal of improving diagnostic and monitoring tools for renal diseases in general.
Beyond the lab, Shahid is an enthusiastic language learner, exploring cultures through languages such as German and Turkish. He actively practices Martial Arts and is interested in photography and culinary arts. He is also a passionate advocate of science communication and public outreach. As a coordinator for JK Scientists Outreach, Shahid works to bridge the gap between scientific research and the community.
